Took Tom and Suzi to Leah's fun show on Saturday, Tom went for the ring experience really and I just tried to use the whole thing as training. On the whole it wasn't a huge success but there were some really good bits. He did the dog walk fantasically and did some brillient waits but weaves were something a bit alien and sniffing the ground was much more interesting than me.
Here he is doing a lovely wait.

Impressive startline wait!
The only problem was as soon as I said go it was nose down and sniff!!!
The sniffing is annoying but I think he'll get over it once he's really keyed into the agility. I would keep the exercises really short, sharp and fun with loads of food and toys at the end of each little section to keep him focused. I'd also consider tying him up (somewhere inside the school) when it's not his turn so that he's looking for you in between turns. I'd take him to his tethering point each time I'd finished the play/food reward after each little training sequence.
Thanks Nancy I'll try that tonight, I hadn't thought about tying him up in between but it makes perfect sense.
Think I was expecting too much of him on Saturday, I forget he's a baby still as he's coming on so well.
I have to agree that Thomas is only a young dog. Maybe Saturday was just one of his bad days? On other training posts he sounds like he is keyed onto the agility and keen to work.
Great pics he looks fab
